One of my favorite thing that Megan and I have ever done together was to visit the spice plantation in Zanzibar. The island off the coast of Tanzania has been a spice island used by Arab traders for centuries. The culture that has developed because of the different influences is truly amazing.
Our guide showed us all of the different plants and explained what they were. There was everything from lemon grass to iodine to ginger roots. They had cocoa trees and coffee trees and cinnamon trees! There are way to many plants to list that we saw so I will just leave you with a bunch of pictures of what we saw. It was just so cool to see where chocolate and coffee come from!
Who knew that vanilla is a skinny black chili looking pod. It was so amazing! If you ever find yourself in Zanzibar than a spice tour is a must!
