Ocean Isle beach is located an hour north of Myrtle Beach. Megan and I spent a week there, soaking in the sun! Every summer, Megan’s family goes to the beach. When I say Megan’s family, I mean her Grandma, parents, five siblings, her aunt and uncle and their seven children, who are all married and most of them have kids of their own. We stayed in a beautiful twelve bedroom, beachfront house. All fifty of us.
If I were to describe Ocean Isle in one word it would be, quiet. Most of the island is taken up by houses. A few small shops and restaurants are dotted throughout the island as well. An intercostal waterway winds through the island, harboring yachts and small fishing boats which are tied to floating docks.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous when we were there. Mid to high eighties with a slight breeze. Seashells covered the beach. This was both a positive and negative thing, one could find an amazing assortment of shells but there were a few cut feet throughout the week from jagged pieces of shells laying on the beach.
Most days, we slept in, ate breakfast and went straight to the beach. We would camp out there reading, sunbathing and body surfing until about one o’clock. We would then make our way to our private pool to cool off from the heat of the sun. After eating a light lunch, we would head back out to the beach. In the evening, we would head over to Sunset Slush for Italian Ice. Sunset Slush has to be the best Italian Ice I have ever had! If you are ever in the area, we highly recommend it! Sunset Slush also has a cart they push on the beach for beach side service, talk about AWESOME!
For those seeking a quiet, relaxing beach vacation, secluded from major touristy spots, Ocean Isle is a good place to be.
